Snowtex has been working towards eco-friendly ETP operations and achieving zero waste generation

Snowtex Outerwear Limited has been awarded the "National Environment Award 2024" by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for its institutional contributions to environmental conservation and pollution control.

Snowtex has been working towards eco-friendly Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) operations and achieving zero waste generation. This award has been given in recognition of those efforts.

The award was presented on Wednesday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center during the inauguration of World Environment Day, the National Tree Plantation Campaign, the Environment Fair, and the Tree Fair.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, handed over the award to Md Tofazzal Hossain, Director (Operations) of Snowtex Outerwear Ltd.

On June 2, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced Snowtex Outerwear Ltd as one of three institutions and three individuals selected for the award. The official notification was signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Sabrina Rahman.

Snowtex Outerwear Ltd, a sister concern of Snowtex Group—one of Bangladesh’s leading garment manufacturing and exporting companies—is located in Dhulivita, Lakuria Para, Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The factory is surrounded by lush greenery and maintains an eco-friendly environment within its premises. With the help of advanced technologies, it has emerged as a model green factory and currently employs more than 9,000 workers.

The Ministry recognized Snowtex for its wide range of environmental initiatives. These include the annual distribution of 100,000 free tree saplings, afforestation covering 80% of its factory area, and the use of solar power to meet a significant portion of its electricity needs.

The factory also ensures 100% reuse of treated wastewater in gardening, toilet flushing, and car washing.

In addition, Snowtex has taken extensive measures to reduce environmental impact across all stages of production. These efforts include reducing plastic usage by over 90%, eliminating single-use plastics, encouraging workers to become more environmentally aware, promoting the use of reusable bags, and implementing technologies that reduce electricity and water consumption.

The factory is equipped with LED lighting, solar panels, inverter technology, gas boilers, and water-saving taps.

Moreover, Snowtex operates a modern Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to manage liquid waste efficiently. It has also adopted a sustainable production management system that actively involves its workers — a model that has received international praise.

Expressing his gratitude, Md Tofazzal Hossain said,
“Our aim was to build an eco-friendly factory to combat the negative effects of climate change, and this award is a proud recognition of those efforts.”

Mosharaf Hossain, Director (Group Operations) of Snowtex Group, added,
“We didn’t make the factory environmentally friendly just to win awards. Our mission is to ensure that our facility aligns harmoniously with nature. This recognition is a significant achievement, and we will continue to operate in balance with the environment.”

Snowtex Group’s green manufacturing vision continues to inspire sustainable transformation within Bangladesh’s garment industry, proving that industrial excellence and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
